Nová Karolina is an integral part of the Moravská Ostrava municipal monument zone. There are two cultural monuments located in the southern part of Nová Karolina: the electricity power station of the Žofín Iron and Steel Works, the so-called Double Hall, and the Central Office of the Karolina Coking Plant. The project’s intention was fundamental revitalisation enabling, by means of suitable construction work, further fruition in compliance with owner’s plan, keeping the original exterior. The Central Office of the coking plant is intended for cultural and social purposes (concerts, theatre performances etc.). The basic motive of the proposed construction was an interior fit out with an operational background. The Central Office was designed as a multi-functional venue for sport and cultural events.
