The main aim of the project is to complete the construction of the Náchod Regional Hospital complex. The urban and architectural design is based on a requirement to coordinate, integrate and modernise the basic functions of the hospital, which is currently divided into two functional units (upper and lower sites). The completion of the lower site and subsequent vacation of the upper site will consolidate the currently fragmented inpatient and examination facilities, thereby providing better access to medical care for the patients. The proposed building complex is divided into three basic sections – the entrance section with an admissions unit, outpatients’ department and emergency admissions unit; joint examination and treatment units; and the wards. The basic feature of the proposed design concept for the site is the creation of conditions for the efficient operation of the hospital, that is, for the smooth movement of people and medical supplies. The design proposes the creation of a central corridor consisting of a system of passageways on several levels running through the entire complex, from the lowest section, which is the entrance section with the admissions unit (outpatient units and emergency admissions) to the existing pavilion (pathology unit and laboratories), situated at the highest level.
